Project 365 {Day 347 – 353} January 18, 2014   0

As a season gets hectic, I pick up my camera less and less. This particular week is when it started for me… grabbing what I like to call “drive-by snapshots” from my phone as I ran from task to task. I’ll make sure to mark them as phone shots. Oh, and don’t mind the blurriness.

One of our Christmas traditions is to go to Lake Lanier Magical Nights of Lights. Basically, it’s a drive-thru of Christmas light arrangements themed to music (although this year, they didn’t do that.) After you wind through all the lights, they have what they call the Holiday Village. It’s just a store, two bonfire pits and in recent years they’ve added a carnival area.

When it was just me and the man, we never really stopped, although since the girl was born, we’ve always gone into the shop to check it out. Last year, we also walked the girl a bit through the carnival area. Not wanting to spend money and as it was cold, we opted out of any rides for her.

This year, we braved the carnival area again, even though I can swear it was colder than last…at the very least, much windier. And, true to form, when the girl saw the merry-go-round, she begged for a ride. However, right beside it was the pony ride, which piqued her interested enough to want to ride a pony more than the merry-go-round.

We thought, sure, seems like she would have tons of fun riding a pony.

As you can see from the picture, we were wrong.

Who knew riding a pony on a circular track could be so scary?

This year we also broke open a puzzle we purchased a few years back. It is the 12 Days of Christmas by Jim Shore puzzle from Springbok. Even the girl helped out a bit.

We definitely enjoyed doing a puzzle in the evenings, so maybe I’ll start looking for a new Christmas puzzle each year. It was fun family time.

Are these not the cutest planters? If I had a place to hang them (I imagine them hanging from a kitchen sink window which I do not have), I’d totally get one… or two… or three…

{352/365} Making crowns

I got this idea from a Pinterest I saved earlier this year to make the girl a few crowns. With all the dress up stuff we got her, I thought she’d love to play “princess”. She is, after all, the daughter of a heavenly king. 😉

Sadly, as I write this, they are still not done. I got so busy with Christmas prep that they are sitting in the garage in the same spot I left them mid-December. I’ll have to go back and finish them sometime soon.

Ikea is serious homeowner crack. It is tons of fun to go and browse their room setups, but so hard to not buy a ton of stuff each visit. So when we saw this little cabinet dollhouse setup, it seriously took everything in us not to buy the cabinet to recreate the same in our house. Oh Ikea, such a love/hate relationship…

Oh my goodness, the girl is ridiculously cute on that pony. Despite the expression of sheer terror. That's definitely a picture to show the boyfriends in... er... 30 years? ;o)

I saw those crowns on Pinterest too! I had trouble believing they would hold their form just cause of some paint. Did they turn out ok? Also, that stow away dollhouse is pretty clever. It seems like a DIY version wouldn't be too difficult to replicate.

Anyway, I'm just checking out your website from the SITS tribe challenge. Cool photos and way to make a commitment to doing something for a whole year. I'm not sure I could follow through.

I have a separate folder where I've been collecting embarrassing moments for her wedding day slideshow... not that she will ever know I am planning a slideshow... mwahahahah

Come back in the next week or two about the crowns. They're still sitting in my garage, but like I mentioned above to Valerie, I plan on finishing those suckers this week. I'm sure I'll make a post about them...

Thanks for introducing yourself, Mel! Reply

I agree, Ikea is definitely home owner crack. I'm so glad the nearest one is 2 hours away. Your photos are beautiful(love your tree) and so is your daughter.

I'm also stopping by from the Sits Girls tribe challenge.

Fortunately, ours is a 45 minute drive into Atlanta. I work from home, because Georgia drivers have a way of riling me up... so that and of course the lack of self-control make it easy for us to stay away.

Thank you for visiting and compliments on my daughter always get points. ;) Reply

I am loving the dollhouse idea! Pinterest is such a gem, but it is so easy to get overwhelmed with all the ideas. Hoping to one day get disciplined enough to actually finish a project lol. Reply

Right! That's why I feel so bummed this crown project is still sitting in the garage! I'm going to make a point of finishing it this week.

Thanks for stopping by Lashawn! I'm just finishing my 365 from last year. This will be my fourth 365 and I was feeling a bit burnt out, so I went in a different direction with my photography project for the year:

I used to take my photos at all kinds of odd hours, too. Fortunately days are a 24 hour period. ;) Reply

I'm always impressed by 365 projects. Regardless of how committed I am, I don't know that I have the consistency to do something EVERY day.

It can be very stressful for sure, depending on your take of it. But once you do a project like that, it's very empowering.

But it also leaves you feeling like... "Now what?" lol
