Remember the scavenger hunt I was doing? Vacation slightly derailed my plans. I mean, what was I thinking, trying to take over 100 targeted photos in one week? I think I got about 30 of them, but with everything going on, never got around to posting them, so half way through the week I decided I’d just enjoy the rest of my time there.
The good thing about doing the hunt was running across old memories. I pulled out my wedding dress for one of the photos and realized I never really preserved it. I would love for the girl to have the option of wearing or adapting it to her taste, so I took it to a local drycleaner I trust to see if he can take some of the 15 year old stains out of the dress. Not holding my breath, but who knows…
I also bought new crayons for the girl, but she hasn’t been much into coloring for a long time. I’m beginning to wonder what her favorite thing to do is… aside from have tea parties…
Vacation time in Florida was great and the girl had plenty of play time with her “bestie” from across the street. I even got a chance to get her friend comfortable with water again! And our girl swam like a champ! Such a different child from a few weeks ago at swim classes…
On this trip, we decided the girl was still too small to really enjoy Disney World and the idea of dropping $300 in tickets and rentals was far from appealing. So we decided to go to Disney Village instead and had a lovely day, until we got rained out. As you can see, the girl made friends with the many statues…
Sea World was a lesson in reality. I had hoped the girl would be interested in the different shows available so we took her first to the Shamu OneWorld show. Once we got there she was only interested in running in the aisle between myself and my husband. Fortunately the show is only 20 minutes long so there wasn’t a lot of time for us to disturb anybody else. After that, we decided that we would just hang out at the kids area for most of the day. She did get to ride her first rollercoaster, so that was pretty cool!
We did make a point to stand in the 90 minute wait line for the new Antarctica penguin exhibit. It wasn’t the most pleasant of waits, because for most of the time you’re standing outside in sun with no shade. Then they move you into the ride inside the building and it cools off a bit, but you’re still sweating and your clothing is soaked from all your sweat.
But here is the best part. After the ride they show you the penguins. So you get off the ride and you walk into this freezing cold room with just some brick walls and a chain-link fence separating you and the penguins which means that it is as if you were standing in Antarctica… in your tank top and shorts… in your soaked in sweat tank top and shorts…
I suspect this is all by design in order to keep the crowds low in the penguin area since most people could only tolerate a few minutes in the area. Once you leave, you can’t return, but to go through the whole wait line all over again. But for those people who are easily susceptible to getting sick, this is such a horrible attraction. Suffice to say, the girl was freezing and so were we. We left after a few minutes as well.
All in all the vacation was great. We had lots of rest time and taking days in between theme parks was a good idea. The girl can be exhausting chasing after her all the time.
I only wish we could have stayed longer… but who doesn’t wish the same on their vacations, right?
