Unrelated to any of my photos, this week we started swim lessons. Well, “swim lessons” is a little misleading. It’s a Parent-Tot water class where we play around, pretend to swim while I hold her afloat by the waist and practice supported floating. Sorry for the lack of pool photos, but I’m sure you would understand my not wanting to bring my camera to the pool. Plus, I can’t hold her in the water and hold the camera at the same time.

We decided to put the girl in swim classes, because well, we let her traumatize herself when she was young. I won’t get into the details, but suffice to say, two mishaps at my mom’s swimming pool and no desire to get her hair washed in the bathtub has left us with a girl who just doesn’t like the water that much. With both of us loving water as much as we do, we thought it was time to nip the fear in the bud… or at least give it the good ol’ college try.

We’ve only had 2 sessions, but we’re not making as much progress as I would have liked. I’m not even sure why I expected 180 results so quickly. My hope was, she would see all the other kids having such fun in the pool, she would lose all abandon and play, too. Instead, I have a clinging baby monkey who I spend half the time convincing it’s okay to be in the water, because mami is in the water, too.

The instructor is kind enough to look at my frustrated-on-the-brink-of-tears face and encouragingly say she’s improving. I’m thankful for that, because I seriously need the encouragement.

There are 2 more weeks of 2x a week sessions. I’m hoping to have a water baby by the time we’re done. Cross your fingers with me.
