My sweet, sweet girl,
Oh my gosh how time flies! In just a week you will be 4. FOUR YEARS OLD. If you weren’t right here in front of me, I really couldn’t believe it. I just bought a 1-year birthday present for your little cousin and I barely remember you being that size and wanting to eat everything that crossed your path…
You’ve gotten so big…and tall!
Te quiero muchisimo…
Watching you grow is amazing. Seeing you form your likes and dislikes is sometimes comedic, because one day you’ll love something, the next you won’t like it… Except for ballet. I think you made up your mind about it and you definitely don’t want to do it at all.
You were unwavering about not wanting to dance ballet when I asked before the registration cutoff several months ago, and you gave me the same answer last week when I asked you again. I never thought you were that sure about it. You’ve definitely succeeded in getting me to take your responses a bit more seriously.
Since you didn’t want ballet, we’ve switched you to a Kinder Gym class. Not my first choice, but the ballet school is really trying to keep you enrolled… and at the moment, I didn’t have time to find a gymnastics school for you to attend. So we tried a class. You really seemed to enjoy it.
I’m hoping we find something that you love… something you’ll want to do for the rest of your life. That’s a little “heavy” to think about, but I want you to find an activity that makes you happy. Something you can go back to in one form or another and always have good memories attached to it. It makes being a naturally health-inclined adult easier when you have those positive feelings related to physical activities early on.
And with gymnastics, I’m not expecting you to be the next Mary Lou Retton, but it will definitely help you feel comfortable with the limits of your own body. It might even lead you to be an awesome movie double / stunt woman… and you know your daredevil mami thinks that would be a cool job!
Love,
Mami
