Mi querida nina,
It’s such a fine line between being present in the moment and documenting events. If I have my eye behind the lens, I miss out on enjoying the scene. So these past months, I put down the camera more and spent time in the moment. I wanted to enjoy my time with Bizabuelita, Nana and you, but I made sure to bring it along with us for Halloween.
Daddy and I don’t care much for the holiday… or for being scared. You, on the other hand, love playing hide and seek, dressing as a ghost and jumping out from around corners to scream “boo!” You are a fan of Halloween. I wish you didn’t like it so much and I’m crossing my fingers hoping you’ll grow out of it. If not, I’m sure you’ll eventually terrorize us with your love of the holiday. I’m not looking forward to it at all…
We had planned for a month to dress you as Princess Belle. You’ve been in love with her all summer and we even had Nana buy you a Belle dress costume thinking you would want to dress like her for Halloween. To our surprise, you decided you wanted to be a Princess Fairy.
Thank goodness we still had your ballet recital outfit from earlier this year. Pair that with an undershirt, matching tights, and those gossamer IKEA wings from last Christmas… you were the cutest little Princess Fairy ever… all clad in your Star Wars Vans your uncle sent the month before.
This year, we went over to your “best friend’s” Alexa’s house. We invited your other “best friend”, Lily and met up with another friend of yours from your second year at daycare.
Alexa was feeling a little shy… and she missed her mommy, who was back at the house with the boys. So I held her hand for most of the walk around the neighborhood… except for when the two of you wanted to run up to houses.
Boy did you guys run around a lot… or rather, you dragged Alexa around a lot.
When we finally made it back to the house, it was time to tear into the candy!
Fortunately followed by a little more under-the-table playing to burn off the sugar.
When we finally left, you promptly crashed soon after that. I’m so glad you had such a fun time… and I’m sure you’ll eventually wear your Belle costume around the house. After all, you still wear an Elmo costume from 2 years ago… my silly, silly girl…
Te quiero, mi ardillita…
