It’s a brand new year and a new start to our Letters To My Daughter group. Some of our original members from Clickin Moms won’t be able to participate this year and we’ve added new members to the group. Please stick around and make the rounds of our blog circle. I know all these mamas will touch your heart…

Mi querida nina,

As I write this letter, we’re sitting on the couch snuggling. This is the first time you’ve watched Tarzan and you’re a little scared. You’ve been holding my earlobe, letting out squeals here and there at a scary scene. You almost didn’t want to watch the movie until I told you it was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid. But now…you just can’t take your eyes off of it.

These days you spend a lot of time protesting… either you can’t do something, you don’t like something, I don’t let you do what you want. Since you discovered you *sometimes* get a say in what happens in your immediate world, you’ve put your mind to testing just about everything that comes out of my mouth. Baby girl, I never imagined guiding and encouraging you would be this much of a challlenge.

But see, the thing is this… I *know* you can do it. Just about everything that I ask of you and everything you will ever long to do. My heart is never to set you up for failure, but to help you overcome circumstances, consequences and obstacles. There is nothing you can’t do. Your Nana taught me that and I aim to teach you the same.

Fortunately, you’re curious enough that even if something defeats you once, you do try it again… (if after a bit of whining at times.) I’m hoping that soon you will realize you can try things again without the additional cries of frustration. A setback, large or small, is never the end of the world.

And when all else fails, you can just giggle it out with a friend.

Te quiero muchisimo ardillita,

❤ Mami

I know those protests well so I can relate! I think testing their mommies must be their favorite thing to do! Lovely letter and photos as always Yazmin! Reply
