Happy to say today my husband and I celebrate 15 years of marriage. It seems a little crazy in our world today, where relationships are akin to disposable towels. If they break, or get used up quickly, it’s as simple as tossing them into the garbage and grabbing a new one.
Tossing away our marriage was never an option for us. We both came from broken homes and knew a marriage took some work. Divorce is just not a word in our vocabulary.
I’m not saying we didn’t bring it up during some rough patches, but it was more of a “low-blow” comment when we had lost our cool and were looking to be hurtful.
These days, we’re still not perfect, but we argue less. We try to love each other the way Jesus loves us. Low blows set aside, more listening and attempts to understand… and tons of forgiveness. (More him of me, because I have an active “open mouth insert foot” syndrome.)
Usually, we celebrate our anniversary by buying each other something we’ve been wanting… like a cologne or some small techie gadget. This year though, I literally only spent 77 cents, aside from my time and materials already in hand, but I think the outcome was so worth it.
It’s not much. Small and understated. Something to tuck into a corner or bathroom line up. But very, very special, indeed.
One reason I love him for each of the 365 days in a year.
I hope the words inside speak to his heart and affirm him on a daily basis. He deserves that and so much more…
Happy Anniversary Jason!
Here’s to 15 more… before you turn me in for a newer model. 😉0
