Adoption Profile Books & Waiting for You Poster {Free Printable} May 16, 2014   3

Aside from the flurry of session posts last month, it’s been a little quiet around here. That’s because I’ve been working on a few projects in the background. One of them is obviously this new website design I just quietly soft-launched yesterday!

~ TADA ~

I had such a hard time trying to decide on the next design for the website. You would think for someone who designs websites for a living, designing my own website would be a simple task. It’s been 4 months of “simple” so far and I can tell you my husband is more than frustrated with me and all the nights I spend in front of the computer instead of watching TV with him.

Please, please, please let me know how you like it.

It would make all the time I spent feel a little more worth it. 😉

I’ve also been working on a few other projects in the background and finished a family session this weekend, both of which involve the lovely printable poster below:

If you’re wondering what it’s all about, here’s how this poster came to be…

I run with a circle of friends with adoption woven into their life story. It’s not far from mine either, as my husband was an adopted child, too.

One of these friends runs an adoption assistance ministry. She helps families sort through all the paperwork and legalese involved with adopting a child. If you’re familiar with adoption, you know a prospective couple needs to create an adoption profile book.

The adoption profile book is usually the only way a waiting family has to connect with a prospective birth mother and to share with her the reason behind their desire for a adopting a child, how they would raise the child and just how much they would love the child.

Because this book is such an important part of the adoption process, it is really important to make it the best foot forward. This of course involves making sure there are enough of and a variety of photographs for the different sections of an adoption profile book.

Most of us don’t go around photographing the wonder of the everyday or even taking self-portraits, so sometimes we need help. That’s where this printable poster comes in… along with an adoption book photography session. (I’ll have a sneak peek of one in my next post.)

With that in mind, I thought it’d be cute to create a framed chalkboard to write messages on and use as props to photograph prospective adoptive families. I bookmarked a few of the ideas on my Photo Styling: We’re Adopting! Pinterest board and a few others I just came up with on my own.

But the truth is, I never created the chalkboard frame, because I’m just horrible at writing consistently. And if I had to write legible characters on demand, I’d be way too stressed! Not to mention, I cringe at the idea of scratching my nails on a chalkboard accidentally… right? I know I’m not the only one.

So, instead I opted for painting a woodcut frame different colors on each side. Then, I created the printables and had them printed on poster paper at my local Wal-mart and stuck them to the frame with removable glue dots. They’re not the best solution (as I found out during the session), but definitely a good, affordable start for me.

This was my first poster. Don’t you just love it?

I know I do… and if you do, too, well then guess what? It’s free to download… with one string attached…

I also shared this link but the box never showed a download. I came because another fertility friend shared it. Thank you!
