A Visit to LEGOLAND Discovery Center Atlanta August 29, 2013   0

We love Legos. And the girl has really loved her first builder Mega Bloks set, but she outgrew it and it’s building possibilities already. So we decided it was time for a visit to the LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Atlanta.

We’ve been excited to go since it opened in 2009, but never went, since adults aren’t allowed to go without a child to chaperone them. (Phooey!)

It was a bit of an adventure, since we hardly ever go into town. Neither one of us likes to drive the narrow streets… and then there’s the whole parking issue… or rather, the lack there of. This particular discovery center is located inside Lenox Mall in the Buckhead area. It has underground parking and for me, is in a very confusing area of  town. As we pulled into the structure, we had visions of earthquakes and realized just how claustrophobic both of us can be. If we lived in that area, we would not shop there at all. Anywho…

Since this is a photo heavy post, I’ll just get right to them…

One of the rooms in the center is full of famous Atlanta landmarks. I’m sure the girl was less than impressed by the structures, but we were amazed with the scale and detail.

It was so cool to see them, because they had the lights on a timer, where they would dim so you could see the Lego structures light up “at night”.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Aside from that room, there were also two rides. The first one (no photos) was a shooter game that put you in a moving 4 person car (think Mr. Toads Wild Ride at Disney) and you shot at the targets to see who got the most points.

The second one was a bicycle ride, where you pedaled to get some altitude. The girl was still too short to reach the pedals, so I did the pedaling to get us higher. That ride was a ton of fun.

This last photo is probably what got our Lego craze started and we’ve since bought a ton of Lego items.

Maybe the visit wasn’t such a good idea… heehee…
